Ettore Sottsass, born and raised in Turin, graduated in architecture from the Turin Polytechnic in 1939. He established his own studio in Milan in 1947, marking the start of a prolific career. In 1956, Sottsass moved to New York to work in the studio of renowned designer George Nelson. Upon returning to Italy, he began significant collaborations with Poltronova in 1957 and Olivetti in 1958. Throughout the late 1960s and 1970s, he worked closely with Superstudio and Archizoom Associati within the Radical Architecture movement, ultimately co-founding the influential Memphis group in 1981. Sottsass received numerous international honors, including the prestigious ADI Compasso d'Oro Award in 1959. Today, his works are featured in the permanent collections of esteemed museums worldwide. Featured here is a pair of wooden ottomans, model T29 "Dado," designed by Ettore Sottsass Jr. for Poltronova in the 1960s.
