In this project, we began with the interior architecture, vaulting the living room’s flat ceiling and thoughtfully reconfiguring the floor plan. The custom-built-in banquette in the family room enhanced both the seating capacity and the room’s intimacy, maintaining its distinction from the bustling kitchen area.

Throughout the residence, Pesco Italian marble countertops and aged limestone flooring are complemented by rich walnut wood paneling. Cedar-clad ceilings and abundant natural light from the home’s many skylights and windows bathe the interiors, cultivating an atmosphere that is inviting, refined, and distinctly modern.

The bold scale and strong presence of the integrated slab sink and accent wall in the powder bathroom are balanced by the playful, feminine tones of the Pink Lady quartzite. A vintage French etched mirror adds a touch of elegance, complemented by a wall-mounted faucet from Waterworks.

We took cues from mid-century modern design to set the framework for easy, breezy interiors that cater to their clients’ alfresco inclinations. Throughout sunlit spaces, cedar-clad ceilings reign above rooms wrapped in smooth walnut paneling and streamlined built-ins that speak to the straightforward style of the bygone era. To counter the austerity of the clean lines and sparse structural details, we slathered walls with pigment-tinted Venetian plaster for softness and incorporated statement-making features made from natural stone for texture and depth. In the main living areas, tumbled Mexican limestone floors convey a sense of age while the muted earth tones of the Fior Di Pesco marble island and range wall wash the kitchen in warmth and hide a myriad of sins.
